Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has laid out two key conditions that he says must be fulfilled before any negotiations with the United States can move forward in Islamabad.
In a post shared on X, Ghalibaf stated that Israel must fully withdraw its forces from Lebanon and that Iran’s frozen financial assets should be released as a prerequisite for dialogue. He emphasized that without progress on these two issues, formal talks cannot begin.
The comments come as Pakistan prepares to host high-level US-Iran discussions in Islamabad aimed at reinforcing a fragile regional ceasefire framework. The timing of Ghalibaf’s remarks is being viewed as adding fresh pressure on the diplomatic process, potentially complicating efforts to launch the negotiations.
His statement also reflects Tehran’s continued position of linking regional military developments and sanctions relief to broader diplomatic engagement, raising new uncertainty over the prospects and timing of the proposed Islamabad talks.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to face mounting domestic and international pressure amid shifting regional dynamics following the ceasefire arrangement.
