Justice Shakeel Ahmed of the Lahore High Court has reserved judgment on a petition challenging the ongoing nationwide internet disruption, highlighting the issue as a matter of public interest and assuring that the court will issue appropriate orders.
During the hearing, the federal government’s lawyer requested additional time to provide a detailed report on the internet disruption.
The lawyer cited the need for further investigation by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to determine the causes of the slow internet speed.
In response, the court remarked on the seriousness of the matter, stating, “This is a matter of public interest, and your level of seriousness is evident. You don’t even have proper information.”
The petition contends that the current internet disruption infringes upon citizens’ fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and access to information. Justice Ahmed underscored the public interest aspect of the case, indicating that the issue will be thoroughly examined before a decision is made.
