A Pakistani taxi driver in Mannheim, Germany, is being hailed as a hero for his courageous actions in stopping a deadly car attack that resulted in two fatalities.

According to German media outlet DW, the driver, Afzal Muhammad, took swift action by pursuing the attacker’s vehicle and forcing it to a halt, thereby preventing further casualties. Mayor Christian Specht commended Muhammad’s bravery, stating, “He showed great bravery. He pursued the attacker’s car and stopped it to prevent further harm.”

Afzal Muhammad, who has resided in Germany for 15 years, has gained widespread recognition for his heroic intervention.

Authorities have identified the suspect as a 40-year-old German citizen who attempted to flee the scene after the attack. In a desperate act during his escape, he tried to take his own life by shooting himself in the mouth but survived. He was subsequently treated at a hospital before being taken into custody by law enforcement.

Investigators suspect that the attacker may have psychological issues and are conducting further evaluations. Police have confiscated several items from his home and vehicle, including firearms, documents, and digital storage devices, which are currently undergoing forensic examination.
