The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a press release forecasting significant monsoon rains across the country starting June 25, 2025. According to the Met Office, current weather patterns indicate that the upper and central regions will experience intensified rainfall in the coming days.

Key Forecasts:

  • Kashmir/Gilgit-Baltistan: Rain and thunderstorms with scattered heavy falls (at times very heavy) are expected in Kashmir from the evening of June 24 to July 2, with occasional gaps. In Gilgit-Baltistan, similar conditions are anticipated from June 26 to June 29.
  • Punjab/Islamabad: Rain and thunderstorms with scattered heavy falls (at times very heavy) are predicted in Islamabad and surrounding areas from June 25 to July 1.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Heavy rain and thunderstorms with scattered heavy falls are expected from June 25 to July 1, affecting various districts including Swat, Kohistan, and Buner.
  • Balochistan: Rain and thunderstorms are forecasted in northeastern and southern parts from June 25 to June 28.
  • Sindh: Rain and thunderstorms are expected in southeastern Sindh from June 25 to June 28.

Possible Impacts and Advisories:

The Met office warns of heavy to very heavy rains that may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, particularly in Murree, Kohistan, and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Landslides may occur in vulnerable hilly regions, and travelers are advised to remain cautious and manage their travel plans accordingly.
