The Ministry of Maritime Affairs has announced a major initiative to boost the operational capacity of Gwadar Port by introducing new shipping lines and launching a ferry service connecting Pakistan with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The strategic plan was revealed during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, in Islamabad. The minister directed all relevant departments to expedite efforts to integrate Gwadar into international maritime networks, emphasizing the importance of expanding shipping lines to increase goods movement, facilitate transit trade with Central Asia and the Middle East, and ease congestion at existing Pakistani ports.
A key component of the initiative is the planned ferry service from Gwadar to GCC countries, which will provide a direct and cost-effective maritime link for both passengers and cargo. The new service is expected to benefit expatriate communities, promote tourism, and enhance cross-border trade.
Consultations are currently underway with shipping companies, port operators, and maritime authorities to finalize the technical, legal, and operational frameworks necessary for the successful launch of these new services.
