In a significant step towards promoting electric vehicles in Pakistan, the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) announced on Monday that it has drafted standards for establishing charging stations across the country.
This initiative is part of the Prime Minister’s broader plan to encourage the use of electric cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws.
The Power Division’s statement highlighted that the provision of affordable electricity to these charging stations is also under consideration.
Minister for Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, stated that the charging stations would adhere to international standards, ensuring quality and reliability.
The draft standards are set to be approved by the Power Division following consultations with all relevant stakeholders. Minister Leghari assured that electricity connections for the charging stations would be prioritized, with a focus on ensuring a smooth power supply and stable voltage.
These measures are expected to significantly lower the costs associated with petrol-powered vehicles, marking a transformative shift in Pakistan’s transportation landscape. The minister noted that the implementation of these initiatives would herald a new era for the country.
Additionally, standard testing centers will be established to evaluate charging batteries, further supporting the infrastructure needed for a successful transition to electric vehicles.
