The federal government has introduced strict new operating hours for commercial and social activities across the federal capital and other provinces as part of ongoing austerity measures aimed at conserving resources.

According to an official notification, all shops, markets, and shopping malls will now be required to close at 8:00 PM daily, including Saturdays and Sundays.

The directive will come into force from April 7, 2026, and will remain applicable until further notice.

Essential Businesses Exempt

The administration has exempted essential services from the restriction to ensure uninterrupted public access. Businesses allowed to operate beyond the deadline include:

  • Pharmacies, medical stores, laboratories, and hospitals
  • Petrol pumps and CNG stations
  • Tandoors, bakeries, and milk and dairy outlets

Restaurants Face 10 PM Deadline

Under the new rules, hotels, restaurants, and food outlets must shut dine-in operations by 10:00 PM. However, takeaway and home delivery services will continue without any time limitation.

Wedding Functions Also Restricted

The notification also places time limits on marriage-related gatherings. All marriage halls, banquet venues, farmhouses, and wedding ceremonies held at private residences must conclude by 10:00 PM.

Citywide Implementation

The order has been circulated to key government institutions, law enforcement agencies, media regulators, and business bodies to ensure wide public awareness and strict enforcement.
