Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday assigned Provincial Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan the task of launching e-taxi services across the province, modeled after the China Taxi Service.
The Punjab Transport Department has already begun preparations for the commencement of the e-taxi service. The provincial transport minister has held multiple discussions with various electric vehicle manufacturing companies.
Deewan Group and the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) have also expressed interest in the project.
The e-taxi service will operate round-the-clock in all major cities of the province. In the first phase, the availability of e-taxis will be ensured in Lahore and other divisional headquarters.
The introduction of e-taxis is expected to reduce unemployment marginally while providing citizens with an affordable transportation option.
