The government has intensified its campaign to provide subsidies on electric bikes, with a special focus on inclusivity for women. A high-level meeting chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, reviewed the ongoing campaign aimed at subsidizing 116,000 electric bikes under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Speaking at the meeting, Khan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to incentivizing electric vehicles (EVs) as a cornerstone of its environmental and economic strategy. “Electric bikes are not only eco-friendly but also offer significant savings on fuel costs, making them an attractive option for the public,” he said.
Highlighting the campaign’s inclusive approach, Khan announced that 25 percent of the subsidized electric bikes will be reserved exclusively for women, a progressive step toward empowering female riders and enhancing their mobility.
The initiative aligns with the forthcoming National Electric Vehicle (NEV) policy, which proposes subsidies of Rs. 50,000 for electric motorcycles and Rs. 200,000 for three-wheelers, backed by a total subsidy pool of Rs. 4 billion.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Saif Anjum, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production; Ms. Ambreen Jan, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; and Principal Information Officer Mobashir Hassan.
