The Deputy Commissioner’s office in Lahore has announced the formation of a special enforcement committee to crack down on the sale of untaxed cigarettes. The initiative, revealed in an official notification dated March 18, 2026, is part of government efforts to strengthen enforcement against illegal tobacco sales in the city.
The committee will be led by the relevant Assistant Commissioner and will include officials from the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA), the Excise Department, and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to the notification, the committee will carry out a citywide survey and inspection of retail outlets within three days, followed by a sustained enforcement campaign over the next three months. All cigarette products will be checked for valid tax stamps, and any illegal stock discovered will be immediately confiscated, regardless of the quantity.
For major violations, authorities have been granted the power to seal shops or business premises for up to seven days under the law. The notification emphasizes close coordination among district administration, excise officials, PERA, and FBR to ensure effective operations.
Daily progress reports will be submitted, documenting the number of inspections, confiscated cigarettes, and shops sealed. The convenor of the committee is tasked with overseeing compliance and ensuring timely submission of accurate reports.
