The federal government has established a seven-member inquiry committee to assess the repercussions of a statement made by former Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan regarding fake licenses of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) pilots.
According to an official notification, the Prime Minister has appointed Minister for Defence and Aviation Khawaja Asif as the convenor of the committee. The committee’s mandate is to investigate the losses incurred due to the former minister’s remarks about PIA pilots’ licenses.
The committee comprises several high-profile members, including the Federal Minister for Finance, the Federal Minister for Law and Justice, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, the Secretary to the Law and Justice, the CEO of PIA, and the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority. The Defense Division will provide secretariat support to the committee.
The primary focus of the Cabinet Committee is to examine the statement made by Ghulam Sarwar Khan in the National Assembly and evaluate the financial impact on the national exchequer resulting from his comments on the alleged fake licenses.
The committee has been tasked with estimating the financial losses caused by the statement and is required to submit its findings to the cabinet within four weeks, as outlined in the committee’s Terms of Reference (TORs).
