The federal government has extended its transport monetization policy to include officers and judicial officers of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). According to a notification from the Finance Division, officers in BS 18 and 19, as well as judicial officers in BPS 18 and 19, will now receive monthly allowances of Rs. 45,000 and Rs. 55,000, respectively.
This decision follows a review of the subject by the Finance Division, which considered relevant rules, a Supreme Court judgment, and references cited in a notification from the Islamabad High Court dated June 14, 2024. The Controller General of Accounts had also referenced this matter in a letter dated August 6, 2024.
The Finance Division has expressed no objections to the policy’s extension, provided all necessary formalities are met. This move aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to implement the transport monetization policy, which was initially introduced in 2012 for federal government officers in Grades 20, 21, and 22.
The policy, which has been described as “controversial,” aims to provide monetary compensation in lieu of official transport, thereby streamlining government expenses and offering flexibility to eligible officers.
