The federal government has appointed Major General (Retd.) Zafarullah Khan as the Director General of the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority, according to an official notification issued by the Establishment Division on Thursday. The appointment is part of a series of high-level transfers and postings being implemented by the government in recent days.

The Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority was established in March 2024 through an ordinance enacted by then-President Arif Alvi. Later, in September 2024, the National Assembly passed the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority Bill, 2024, which set out regulations for the cultivation of cannabis and the sale of its extracts for medicinal purposes.

In other administrative changes, Raja Tanveer Azmi, a Grade 20 Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, has been relieved of his duties and directed to report to the Establishment Division.

Additionally, the government has reassigned Rana Manzoor Ahmed Khan, a Grade 20 officer from the Military Lands and Cantonments Group, back to the Military Cantonment Department. He previously served as Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Division.
