The federal cabinet has approved the appointment of Lieutenant (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf as Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), marking a significant administrative reshuffle in Islamabad’s governance structure.

Following cabinet approval, the Establishment Division issued an official notification confirming that Sohail Ashraf has been appointed Chairman of the CDA Board under Section 6(2) of the Capital Development Authority Ordinance, 1960, with immediate effect until further orders.

Earlier, the federal government had removed Mohammad Ali Randhawa from his position and appointed Sohail Ashraf as Chief Commissioner Islamabad. With the latest decision, Ashraf will now simultaneously serve as both Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman CDA, effectively placing the city’s administrative and development oversight under a single authority.

Government sources say the consolidation of these two pivotal roles aims to improve coordination between federal institutions and the CDA. Officials believe the dual charge will accelerate decision-making, strengthen governance, and ensure more efficient implementation of development initiatives across the federal capital.

The move is being viewed as an effort to streamline Islamabad’s administrative framework and enhance policy execution through centralized leadership.
