In a significant move to enhance tourism, a new project has been initiated to expand the main highway connecting Rawalpindi, Murree, and Kashmir.
The project, budgeted at approximately Rs. 1.2 billion, involves the construction of a 17-kilometre road stretching from Rawalpindi to Sunny Bank in Murree.
Tenders for the construction work have been issued via the e-tender platform, with a submission deadline set for August 17. As part of the annual development program (ADP), the road construction will be carried out in phases over six months, with work commencing from both ends concurrently.
In an effort to enhance the area’s natural environment, the project includes a tree-planting initiative along the road. The selection will feature fruit trees and native pine trees, along with fruit-bearing plants that represent the Pothohar region’s culture.
Additionally, the plan includes the creation of rest areas along the road for travelers, equipped with solar-powered street lighting to ensure energy-efficient illumination.
