The government has implemented an across-the-board increase in the petroleum levy charged on all petroleum products, official documents have revealed. This decision means consumers will see a rise in the levy applied to petrol, high-speed diesel, kerosene oil, light diesel oil, and E-10 gasoline.
According to the documents, the petroleum levy on petrol has been hiked by Rs 8.02 per liter, while the levy on high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs 7.01 per liter. Kerosene oil will see a levy increase of Rs 7.99 per liter, and light diesel oil’s levy has risen by Rs 7.62 per liter. The petroleum levy on E-10 gasoline has also been increased by Rs 7.04 per liter.
Over the past month, the government has significantly raised the petroleum levy on key fuels. The levy on petrol has seen a substantial increase of Rs 18.02 in just one month, while the levy on high-speed diesel has risen by Rs 17.01 during the same period.
Despite a downward trend in petroleum product prices in the international market, this increase in the petroleum levy means that the benefit of these lower global prices has not been passed on to the general public.
