The federal government has achieved a record collection of the petroleum development levy (PDL) in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25, marking the highest first-quarter collection to date.

Between July and September, the government collected Rs. 261.69 billion in PDL, surpassing the previous year’s first-quarter collection of Rs. 222.07 billion by Rs. 39.62 billion.

The target for the petroleum levy in FY2024-25 is set at Rs. 1.281 trillion. This follows a collection of Rs. 1.019 trillion in the fiscal year 2023-24, a significant increase from the Rs. 580 billion collected in 2022-23. Currently, a PDL of Rs. 60 per liter is applied to both petrol and high-speed diesel.
