A private airline flight from Karachi to Lahore issued a ‘Mayday’ call near Lahore at 7:15 PM, reporting smoke in the cargo compartment, according to a spokesperson for the Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA).
The Fly Jinnah flight, FL 846, safely landed at Lahore Airport at 7:23 pm, the spokesperson confirmed. Following standard operating procedures, the airport authority’s fire department was on-site to handle any emergency situation.
All passengers and crew were safely evacuated using the aircraft’s emergency evacuation system, the spokesperson added. After inspection, the fire department declared the aircraft clear at 7:57 pm.
Senior officials have ordered an investigation into the incident, the spokesperson for the PAA stated.
Fly Jinnah Spokesperson stated,
“Fly Jinnah confirms that flight 9P846 from Karachi to Lahore on September 23, 2024, experienced a smoke alarm indication in the cargo compartment upon landing in Lahore. In accordance with standard safety protocols, the flight crew followed the standard procedures, notified the airport, and the aircraft with all crew and passengers onboard landed safely in Lahore. Our technical team is currently conducting a thorough inspection to identify the cause of the alarm. We regret the inconvenience caused and assure the safety of our passengers and crew remains our main priority.”
