The price of Sona DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate), one of Pakistan’s most widely used fertilizers, has climbed sharply, adding fresh financial pressure on farmers just ahead of the critical sowing season.

According to verified market updates, a 50 kg bag of Sona DAP now retails at Rs. 14,633, while processed variants are priced around Rs. 14,583. Meanwhile, Sona Boron DAP, which includes added boron for enhanced crop nutrition, has crossed the Rs. 15,000 mark, selling at Rs. 15,083 per bag.

The increase, roughly Rs. 200 per bag, is linked to rising diesel costs and volatile international fertilizer prices, which have escalated production and distribution expenses for suppliers.

Other verified fertilizer products include Sona Di Zinc, Sona Boron, Sona Ammonium, and Sona Zinc, all of which have seen price adjustments in line with rising input costs. Even less common fertilizers like Tara ISAP have been affected by market fluctuations.

Farmers are urging the federal government to actively monitor fertilizer prices and introduce targeted subsidies or import facilitation measures to stabilize the market. Agricultural experts also advise growers to secure their fertilizer requirements early and adopt a balanced mix of DAP, urea, SSP, and micronutrients such as zinc and boron to manage crop nutrition efficiently amid volatile pricing.

The surge in fertilizer prices adds to broader inflationary pressures in Pakistan’s agricultural sector. Analysts warn that rising input costs may increase crop production expenses, which could ultimately affect food prices nationwide.
