In another significant move, the Federal Cabinet has directed that instead of importing urea, uninterrupted gas supply to local urea manufacturing plants should be ensured beyond September 2024.
This decision, based on the Economic Coordination Committee’s meeting on August 2, 2024, aims to stabilize urea prices and support the agricultural sector, which is considered the backbone of the country. The Cabinet emphasized the need to reduce agricultural input costs to lower per-acre expenses for farmers.
The Federal Cabinet has approved an increase in the number of members on the Privatization Commission Board from 8 to 11, following recommendations from the Privatization Division.
This decision aligns with the Prime Minister’s directive on International Women’s Day to enhance women’s representation on key national boards. Consequently, the three new board positions will be exclusively filled by women, reflecting the Prime Minister’s vision.
The Cabinet also ratified the decisions made during the Cabinet Committee on Privatization’s meeting on August 2, 2024. The Prime Minister instructed that a comprehensive plan for the privatization of approved State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) be presented at the next Cabinet meeting.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the regularization of daily wage teachers at the Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad, following a Supreme Court decision, as recommended by the Ministry of Education and Professional Training.
On the international front, the Cabinet approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and the Republic of Guatemala. It also approved an agreement for bilateral political consultations between Pakistan and Ecuador, based on recommendations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Furthermore, the Cabinet ratified the decisions made in the Cabinet Committee on State Owned Enterprises (CCoSOEs) meeting held on August 5, 2024, and the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases meeting on July 31, 2024.
