In a significant move to enhance tax compliance, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has sealed two prominent restaurants in Islamabad for issuing fake invoices. This action is part of FBR’s ongoing drive to bring Tier-1 retailers and restaurants under the tax net through the Point of Sale (POS) Invoicing system.

The Regional Tax Office (RTO) in Islamabad, led by the Deputy Commissioner, conducted the operation after detecting inauthentic receipts using POS tracking software. The two restaurants, located in Blue Area and Super Market, were sealed, and each was fined Rs. 0.5 million for their non-compliance.

This enforcement action follows the launch of the FBR’s Point of Sales Prize Scheme on October 25, initially targeting Tier-1 restaurants in Islamabad. The scheme will expand to include all Tier-1 retailers nationwide next month.

Under this initiative, consumers who report fake receipts through the Tax Asaan App can receive cash rewards. Verified reports of fake receipts will result in the sealing of the offending businesses, and cash prizes will be directly transferred to the reporting consumers’ bank accounts.
