The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has received 1.772 million income tax returns for the tax year 2024 as of September 17.
According to sources, this figure represents an increase of 844,748 returns compared to the 928,049 returns filed in FY2023.
Additionally, the FBR collected Rs. 17.2 billion in taxes through these returns by September 17, 2024, a significant rise from the Rs. 3.875 billion collected in admitted taxes during FY2023. Sources attribute this increase to the withdrawal of exemptions and the ending of minimum tax requirements, which have boosted revenue compared to last year.
Furthermore, the FBR has received 195,194 income tax returns from new tax filers in FY2024 so far.
The FBR has issued a warning that the deadline for filing income tax returns will not be extended beyond September 30, 2024..
