The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that there will be no extension to the deadline for filing income tax returns for the fiscal year 2024. This clarification comes in response to various media reports suggesting a possible extension, which the FBR has categorically denied.
The FBR urges all taxpayers to submit their income tax returns by the stipulated deadline to avoid any penalties or legal consequences. Taxpayers are advised to comply promptly to ensure they meet their tax obligations without incurring fines or facing punitive actions.
Starting October 1, 2024, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will issue notices to hundreds of thousands of non-filers, warning them of severe consequences if they fail to file their income tax returns. According to FBR sources, non-filers will face a ban on foreign travel as part of the government’s intensified efforts to enforce tax compliance.
The federal government is also preparing to take additional measures against non-filers, including disconnecting mobile phone SIMs and utility connections, as well as doubling withholding tax rates. The FBR has emphasized that it possesses comprehensive records of citizens’ transaction data and will prohibit property and vehicle transactions by those who do not file their returns.
Following the deadline, the FBR plans to conduct an extensive audit of taxpayers. Individuals found to be evading taxes or providing false information will be subject to heavy penalties, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring tax compliance and accountability.
