The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has confirmed that a viral letter circulating online, claiming that fresh currency notes will not be issued for Eid-ul-Fitr 2026, is fake.
An SBP spokesperson told a news daily that the bank has not released any statement regarding new currency notes. The official clarified that any authentic announcement would be issued only through the SBP’s official press release, which is the sole channel for public communication.
The source added that messages claiming otherwise cannot be verified unless they come directly from the State Bank. “If it had been real, I would have known within my department,” the official said, stressing that the SBP does not distribute such information through unofficial letters or SMS.
The fake letter falsely stated that new notes would not be available, SMS services for fresh notes would be suspended, and citizens should rely on digital payments. The SBP has urged the public to disregard such messages and rely only on official channels for accurate information.
This episode highlights the importance of verifying information through legitimate sources, particularly during times of high public demand like festivals.
