The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in power tariffs for consumers of all power distribution companies (DISCOs) and K-Electric under the monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) mechanism. According to a notification issued on Tuesday, the tariff has been reduced by 75 paisa per unit for DISCOs and 49 paisa per unit for K-Electric for the months of November and October 2024, respectively.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), on behalf of DISCOs, had initially requested a 63 paisa per unit reduction in FCA for November 2024, while K-Electric sought a 27 paisa per unit cut for October 2024. However, NEPRA approved a greater reduction than requested, slashing the tariff by 75 paisa and 49 paisa per unit for DISCOs and K-Electric, respectively.
The tariff reduction will be reflected in the billing month of January 2025 for DISCOs. However, the adjustment will not apply to certain consumer categories, including lifeline consumers, domestic consumers using up to 300 units, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), prepaid electricity consumers, and agricultural consumers of all XWDISCOs.
NEPRA clarified that the negative adjustment under the FCA mechanism will apply to domestic consumers with Time of Use (ToU) meters, regardless of their consumption levels.
