Electricity consumers across Pakistan may face another increase in power tariffs as an upward revision has been sought under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), seeking approval to raise electricity prices by Rs 1.78 per unit for January 2026.
NEPRA is scheduled to conduct a public hearing on the request on February 26, after which a final decision will be announced. If the adjustment is approved, the increase will also be applicable to consumers of K-Electric.
At present, electricity bills are being charged under the December 2025 fuel cost adjustment, which led to an increase of 28 paisas per unit nationwide, including Karachi.
Monthly fuel cost adjustments are routinely made to reflect changes in fuel prices and generation costs, directly impacting consumer electricity bills.
