The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the membership of 119 lawmakers, including members of the National Assembly, Provincial Assemblies, and the Senate, for failing to submit their annual financial returns by the January 15 deadline.

The suspension prohibits the affected lawmakers from participating in any legislative proceedings until they comply with the requirement and file their financial returns. The ECP has also issued a stern warning, stating that any member found submitting false information in their returns will face strict action.

The submission of annual financial returns is a mandatory obligation for public representatives, aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in governance. The ECP’s move underscores its commitment to enforcing compliance with this legal requirement.
