Power distribution companies (DISCOs) have submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking approval to increase electricity prices through quarterly adjustments. This proposal pertains to the first quarter of the current fiscal year and aims to impose an additional financial burden of Rs. 8.71 billion on consumers.
The application outlines a request for Rs. 8.06 billion to cover capacity charges, alongside Rs. 1.25 billion for operations and maintenance costs. Furthermore, an additional Rs. 1.65 billion is sought to address system charges and market operations fees.
NEPRA has scheduled a hearing for November 20 to evaluate the application. If the request is approved, the increased charges will be reflected in consumers’ electricity bills across the board.
