In a significant step towards digital transformation, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) and the KP Excise Department have launched the Motor Vehicle Registration System and Universal Number Plate System under Vision 2030.

The KP government has expanded the online vehicle registration system to cover the entire province and introduced an online payment mechanism for urban property taxes.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur launched these initiatives during a special ceremony at the Chief Minister’s House. This initiative aims to bring motor vehicle services directly to the fingertips of citizens.

With the extension of the Universal Number Plates System, which was previously limited to vehicles registered in Peshawar, vehicles from other districts will now receive number plates featuring three digits and three alphabets.

Developed by KPITB in just two months, the new system fully digitizes existing processes, offering a range of motor vehicle services online. Initially, the system will be available for walk-in citizens, but starting October 1st, users will be able to apply, transfer ownership, and pay fees online through the Dastak application, enhancing convenience.

Key services provided by the system include obtaining a unique registration number and universal number plate, registering new vehicles, and applying for universal number plates. Citizens can also view token tax details and make payments online. The system supports registration for vehicles from other provinces and integrates NADRA verification for added security.

The platform facilitates seamless online payments via Paymir, allowing transactions through any bank or digital wallet. Additional features include vehicle ownership transfers, vehicle amendments, owner detail updates, registration of auctioned vehicles, and transfer of registration numbers.

A centralized vehicle database is also in place to prevent duplicate registrations, ensuring a unified database for both old and new vehicles.

The event was attended by Excise Minister Mian Khaliqur Rehman, Acting Chief Secretary Abid Majeed, Excise Secretary Fayyaz Ali Shah, and other relevant officials.
