Chicken prices have surged dramatically across Punjab, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad, leaving consumers struggling to cope with the sharp increase. According to reports, the cost of broiler chicken has risen to Rs. 780 per kilogram, a significant jump from Rs. 450 per kilogram just weeks ago. Authorities have so far been unable to control the soaring prices, adding to the burden on households.
The price hike is not limited to Punjab. In Mansehra and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, poultry prices have also reached record highs. On Wednesday, live broiler chicken was sold at Rs. 435 per kilogram, as set by the Mansehra Poultry Shops Association. This marks a steep rise from Rs. 300 per kilogram just a few months ago, with prices climbing to Rs. 400 in recent weeks before hitting the current high.
Industry sources attribute the price surge to rising supply costs and seasonal factors. A 40 kg supply of broiler chicken, which previously cost Rs. 13,000, is now priced at Rs. 17,000, coinciding with a drop in temperatures. The colder weather has reportedly impacted production and supply chains, further driving up prices.
The sharp increase in chicken prices has left consumers across the country struggling to manage household budgets. With no immediate relief in sight, the rising cost of poultry is adding to the financial strain on families already grappling with inflation and high living costs
