Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-1 (C-1) has set a national record by operating continuously for 400 days, marking the first time in Pakistan’s history that a nuclear power plant has achieved such a milestone.

Previously, Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Units 2 and 4 (C-2 and C-4) had established records with continuous operations of 365 days each.

The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) currently operates six nuclear power plants across the country, contributing 3,530 MW of electricity to the national grid. Four of these plants are located at Chashma near Mianwali, while two others, K-2 and K-3, are situated near Karachi.

This achievement is attributed to the expertise and dedication of PAEC’s teams of scientists, engineers, and technicians. All four Chashma Nuclear Power Plants (C-1 to C-4) are currently running with high capacity and availability factors.

The Member Power of PAEC has congratulated the team at Chashma Nuclear Power Generation Station (CNPGS) for this achievement, noting that all safety parameters were maintained throughout the record-setting operational period.

The stability of the national grid maintained by the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has also played a crucial role in enabling the continuous operation of the nuclear power plant.

PAEC continues to work toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG-7, which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. The commission has maintained an impressive operational record since the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) was first connected to the national grid in 1972.
