Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Major General (Retired) Hafeez ur Rehman, has issued a statement expressing regret over a recent misunderstanding during a meeting of the Senate Functional Committee on Problems of Less Developed Areas.

Addressing the controversy, the PTA Chairman clarified that he had no intention of being disrespectful or using unparliamentary language during the session. He explained that a light-hearted exchange took place in a casual tone upon the return of a senator, and if his words caused any unintentional offense, he had already offered an apology before the committee.

“I hold Senator Aimal Wali Khan and his esteemed family in the highest regard,” said Rehman, emphasizing his deep respect for all members of the Senate and his commitment to upholding the decorum of Parliament. He stressed that his conduct is always guided by institutional norms and professional responsibilities.

Rehman reiterated that his intention throughout the session was to engage with the committee respectfully and transparently. He urged that any misunderstanding be viewed in the context of PTA’s long-standing record of institutional integrity and professionalism under his leadership.

Responding to ongoing criticism on social media and political platforms, the PTA Chairman described the backlash as stemming from a misperception rather than any actual misconduct. He called for a mature and constructive approach, urging all parties to focus on the national interest rather than personal attacks or miscommunication.

Concluding his statement, Major General (Retired) Hafeez ur Rehman reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country within the framework of law and parliamentary principles.
