The Cabinet Division has terminated Transport Supervisor Ghulam Sadiq from his position over allegations of procuring tampered tyres for the Prime Minister’s Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The decision follows an inquiry ordered by the Prime Minister after a tyre burst incident involving the car during a journey from Islamabad to Lahore by one of the PM’s relatives.

According to the report, the inquiry revealed that Ghulam Sadiq, in collaboration with another official, Muhammad Khalil, failed to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for purchasing bulletproof tyres for the VVIP vehicle. The officials allegedly favored a vendor, M/s Waleed Autos, in securing the supply order despite the vendor’s lack of experience in providing such specialized tyres.

The investigation further disclosed that Ghulam Sadiq did not visit M/s Waleed Autos to verify its capability to supply VVIP-grade bulletproof tyres. Additionally, the procurement process ignored the government’s requirement to use Michelin-manufactured bulletproof tyres for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

The Cabinet Division’s inquiry concluded that the officials’ negligence and procedural violations led to the procurement of substandard tyres, compromising the safety of the VVIP vehicle. As a result, Ghulam Sadiq has been terminated, while further action against other involved officials is reportedly under consideration.
