The federal cabinet has approved an amendment to the Civil Servants Act 1973, introducing new measures to align with the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) requirements under the $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program. The amendment aims to enhance transparency regarding the assets of government employees.

According to sources, a new section, 15-A, will be added to the Civil Servants Act 1973. Under this section, civil servants will be required to declare their domestic and foreign assets through a portal developed by the Establishment Division. The government will also make public the details of civil servants’ properties, investments, and bank accounts, both domestic and international.

The draft amendment bill will be presented by the Establishment Division during the ongoing National Assembly session for approval.

This move comes in response to the IMF’s directive to make data on government officials’ assets public by February 2025, as part of the conditions for the EFF program. The amendment is expected to improve transparency and accountability within the civil service.
