On Monday, the finance ministry informed the National Assembly that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected Rs. 590 million in Point-of-Sale (PoS) service fees during the last fiscal year. In a written reply submitted to the National Assembly, the FBR detailed that a fee of Rs. 1 is charged on each sale invoice collected by tier-1 retailers.

The FBR reported that the total fee collected in this regard amounted to Rs. 660 million in FY23, compared to Rs. 240 million in FY22.

The funds collected as PoS service fees are allocated for the welfare of Inland Revenue Service (IRS) officials and are also used for prize schemes and media campaigns.

However, it is noteworthy that the PoS prize scheme has been suspended for several months.
