The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert regarding Cyclonic Storm “ASNA,” which is currently positioned over the northeast Arabian Sea, approximately 120 kilometers south of Karachi. The storm has been moving westward over the past six hours and is expected to continue on a west-northwestward and then west-southwestward trajectory.
The storm’s current coordinates are Latitude 23.8 N and Longitude 66.6 E, placing it 180 kilometers southwest of Thatta, 250 kilometers southeast of Ormara, and 440 kilometers east-southeast of Gwadar. The PMD has warned of potential rain-thundershowers with heavy falls and squally winds reaching speeds of 60-70 km/hour, gusting up to 80 km/hour, in several districts of Sindh, including Karachi, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, T.M Khan, T.A Yar, Matiari, Jamshoro, and Dadu, until August 31.
The storm is also expected to affect the districts of Hub, Lasbella, Awaran, Keach, and Gwadar in Balochistan until September 1.
The PMD has cautioned that heavy rains may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas along the Makran coast. Sea conditions are anticipated to remain rough to very rough, with squally winds. Fishermen from Sindh are advised to avoid venturing into the sea until August 31, while those from Balochistan should refrain until September 1.
The PMD’s cyclone warning center in Karachi is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Authorities, including the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), provincial governments, and relevant agencies, have been notified to stay informed through PMD advisories.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to take necessary precautions and stay updated on the latest weather information.
