Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on Sunday to discuss the legal aspects and final procedures for the Pak Public Works Department (PakPWD) closure.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed that the financial package for employees affected by the dissolution would exclude those found guilty of serious corruption charges.
PM Shehbaz instructed that a comprehensive plan for transferring ongoing PakPWD projects to provincial authorities and relevant departments be presented soon. He also directed that all final recommendations regarding the department’s closure be submitted to the cabinet for approval.
Additionally, the Prime Minister ordered the implementation of an age relaxation proposal to re-employ diligent and honest individuals with short tenures at PakPWD.
The meeting was attended by key ministers, including Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Housing and Works Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada, and senior officials from relevant departments.
In a separate directive, Prime Minister Shehbaz tasked the Ministry of Information Technology and other relevant departments with implementing the e-office system across all government offices. He mandated a transition to paperless operations within a month, warning that delays in adopting the e-office system would not be tolerated.
“There should be no file work without e-office in government offices from next month,” he stated, highlighting the government’s priority to enhance transparency and efficiency through digitization.
The Prime Minister noted that the PM Office staff had already completed e-office training, and he had begun receiving files through the system last week. He said that the e-office initiative is crucial for improving governance and promoting digital transformation in the country.
PM Shehbaz also requested a progress report on the e-office implementation within the next two weeks.
