Federal government employees and their families will soon be able to apply for welfare grants online and track their applications in real time through a new portal being developed by the National Information Technology Board (NITB).
The platform is being developed for beneficiaries of the Federal Employees Benevolent and Group Insurance Funds (FEB&GIF) to simplify applications, reduce paperwork and improve claim processing, according to an Information Technology Ministry document.
The document states that the FEB&GIF Board of Trustees approved NITB’s engagement for the project during its 131st meeting on March 4, 2026.
Both organisations have finalised the portal’s design, and development is currently underway. The system will become available to beneficiaries after development, testing and deployment.
The portal will allow beneficiaries to submit applications electronically and check their status without repeatedly visiting government offices.
It will also feature CNIC and biometric verification, automated digital processing, application notifications and a centralised beneficiary services platform. Management reports and monitoring tools will help officials oversee applications and improve transparency.
Over 1,400 Welfare Claims Still Pending
FEB&GIF received 8,637 claims under five welfare schemes during the current financial year up to August 31, 2026, according to the ministry document.
Of these, 7,231 had been processed or settled, while 1,406 remained pending.
The claims covered marriage grants, farewell grants, educational stipends, fee reimbursements and monthly benevolent grants.
Under existing procedures, complete welfare claims are supposed to be settled within 45 days. Cases involving objections are processed after applicants provide the required information or documents.
ERP System Also in the Pipeline
The document states that if NITB fails to complete the portal within the agreed timeframe, FEB&GIF will incorporate its requirements into a proposed end-to-end Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) project.
The fund is also proceeding with the procurement of a customised web-based ERP system to automate its operations.
The proposed system will cover human resource management, investment management, finance and accounts, contribution collection, online applications, workflow automation and beneficiary services.
