Financing approved under Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Program has increased 245 percent since June 2026, reaching Rs. 511 billion as of October 23, according to Finance Minister’s Advisor Khurram Schehzad.

In June, approved financing under the affordable housing scheme stood at Rs. 148 billion. The amount disbursed to borrowers also rose sharply, increasing 333 percent from Rs. 21 billion to Rs. 91 billion over the same period.

Loan Approvals Reach 86,896

Banks have received 217,001 applications under the program so far, of which 86,896 have been approved and 15,584 housing loans have been disbursed.

The approval rate has climbed to 40 percent from 28 percent in June, marking an improvement of 12 percentage points.

Schehzad said the increase in financing would bring more families closer to owning their homes.

Disbursements Lag Behind Approvals

The progress of the housing scheme was also reviewed at the sixth meeting of the Access to Finance Steering Committee, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

The committee discussed measures to accelerate loan disbursements and address shortages in housing supply. These included financing options for builders and projects that are still under construction.

Despite the sharp increase in approved financing, actual disbursements remain considerably lower. Of the Rs. 511 billion approved, only Rs. 91 billion has been disbursed to borrowers, representing around 18 percent of the total.

The program has gained momentum in recent months as the government seeks to expand access to affordable housing. It has set a target of financing 150,000 homes under the Apna Ghar Program by June 2027.
