Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will review around Rs. 500 billion in outstanding payments owed to Chinese power companies operating under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) at a meeting today, official sources told RBN.

The meeting will examine unpaid dues in the power sector, including amounts payable to electricity projects established under CPEC. Officials will brief the prime minister on the outstanding liabilities and the financial position of the relevant power-sector entities.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) owes the payments to Chinese power companies but has been unable to clear the outstanding amounts due to financial constraints, according to official sources.

Chinese power producers have repeatedly sent reminders to the government seeking payment of their dues.

The prime minister is expected to issue directions to address the issue during the meeting. Federal ministers and senior officials from relevant departments will also attend.
