Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices remain elevated across Pakistan despite the arrival of two cargo ships from Oman, with rates reaching Rs. 600 per kilogram in several cities and reportedly climbing to Rs. 650 in some markets.
Local prices stand at Rs. 550 per kilogram in Karachi and Rs. 570 in Peshawar. Consumers in Attock, Islamabad and Rawalpindi are paying around Rs. 600 per kilogram. In Quetta, the price fell by Rs. 30 to Rs. 520 per kilogram.
LPG shops in Lahore remained closed for a second consecutive day amid a strike.
The two cargo ships arrived at Pakistani ports on Sunday, raising expectations of lower prices. However, rates have yet to fall significantly in most markets.
The increase has pushed LPG cylinder prices above Rs. 10,000 in some areas. In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, an 11-kilogram domestic cylinder has reached Rs. 6,500.
The official LPG price is Rs. 279.34 per kilogram, but consumers are paying considerably more amid reported supply shortages and limited enforcement.
