The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO) has taken one unit of its China Hub coal-fired power plant offline after a major electrical fault in the unit’s main transformer.

In a disclosure to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on October 21, HUBCO said the fault occurred in Unit 1 of China Power Hub Generation Company Limited (CPHGC). The unit will remain out of service while the company investigates the fault and carries out repairs.

The plant has two coal-fired power generation units with a combined capacity of approximately 660 megawatts (MW). It also includes an integrated coal jetty and is located in Gaddani, Hub Tehsil, Lasbela District, Balochistan.

CPHGC operates the facility as a joint venture between Hub Power Holdings Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of HUBCO, and China Power International (Pakistan) Investment Limited.

HUBCO did not disclose the expected repair timeline or indicate when Unit 1 would resume electricity generation.
