The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) has warned internet users about the privacy risks of sharing their live location online, saying it can expose personal details and make people vulnerable to stalking and tracking.

The warning was issued with the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026.

National CERT said location data can reveal more than a person’s whereabouts. It can help others identify where someone lives, works, spends time and regularly visits.

Sharing live locations can also expose daily routines, including when someone is at home or away. This information could be misused for stalking, unauthorized tracking or other harmful activities.

Location data may also reveal a person’s social connections by showing where they meet others and how often they visit certain places.

National CERT has advised users to turn off location sharing when it is not needed and regularly check the privacy settings of their phones and apps.

Users should also be careful about sharing personal information online and offline, particularly through apps that provide live location updates or allow others to track their movements.

The advisory urges people to adopt stronger privacy practices and share their location only when necessary to reduce the risk of misuse.
