Pakistan’s IT exports climbed 19% year-on-year to $435 million in September 2026, their highest monthly level in nine months. The increase also supported broader growth in services exports, which brought in $2.719 billion during the first quarter of FY27, up from $2.214 billion a year earlier.

State Bank of Pakistan data shows that services exports grew by more than $505 million, or over 22%, during July-September FY27.

IT exports also increased 10% month-on-month in September, partly because the month had more working days. Receipts for the first quarter totaled approximately $1.25 billion, while exports over the 12 months through September reached $4.8 billion, up 20% from $4 billion in the corresponding period last year.

Net IT exports, representing exports minus imports, stood at $364 million in September, an increase of 10% year-on-year.

IT services and freelancers remained a major source of foreign earnings, accounting for more than 45% of services exports in the first quarter. Their combined receipts reached around $1.246 billion, an increase of approximately $187 million, or 17%, from a year earlier.

September’s receipts were the second-highest monthly IT export inflows reported in the source data, behind the $437 million recorded in December 2025.

The government wants to increase annual IT exports to $10 billion by FY29 under its Uraan Pakistan economic plan. Meeting this goal would require a compound annual growth rate of 27.8%.

Industry experts say Pakistan will need to accelerate growth, explore new international markets and address shortages of skilled workers to move towards the target. Monthly IT exports may need to rise to between $450 million and $500 million to sustain stronger growth.

Other business services generated $622 million in the first quarter. These included research and development, consulting, legal and accounting services, advertising, public relations and other technical services.

Transport services earned $295 million, while travel services brought in $322 million. Government services, including consular and military services, contributed around $152 million during the three-month period.

Goods exports also increased during the quarter, rising 7.6% year-on-year to $8.454 billion from $7.853 billion in the same period of FY26.
