Employees of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) have urged the company’s board and management to reconsider shifting its Karachi office to Islamabad, warning that the move could increase costs and disrupt employees’ family lives.

Sources told RBN that PPL has issued relocation letters to 50 employees, directing them to report to Islamabad on October 25, 2026.

In a letter to the board and management, employees and their families asked the company to review the decision and consult staff before moving ahead.

The letter said PPL’s Karachi office had around 500 employees as of October 1, 2026, compared with about 80 in Islamabad. It questioned the need to move the larger office and suggested keeping offices in both cities with digital coordination between them.

Employees also raised concerns about office rent. According to the letter, the Karachi office costs around Rs. 4 million per month, while the proposed Islamabad office would cost Rs. 50 million per month.

The letter estimated relocation costs at Rs. 2 million to Rs. 3 million per employee for the company and a similar amount for employees themselves. It put the combined cost at around Rs. 4 billion and estimated furniture and equipment expenses at another Rs. 1 billion.

These figures are estimates provided by the employees and have not been independently verified.

The employees also asked PPL to conduct a transparent survey to find out how many staff members were willing to move to Islamabad. They called for employees across different management levels to be consulted before the relocation proceeds.

The letter was unsigned, with its writers saying they feared possible repercussions for speaking out against the decision.

RBN previously reported that PPL planned to move its head office operations and staff from Karachi to Islamabad. The latest letter shows that employees are seeking a review as relocation arrangements move forward.
