The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for tax year 2026 by another 16 days, giving taxpayers until October 31 to submit their returns.
The previous deadline was October 15, following an earlier extension from September 30.
In its latest notification, the FBR said the extension applies to taxpayers whose original filing deadline was September 30 and who were subsequently given until October 15 to file their returns.
The tax authority said the decision was made in response to requests from various trade bodies and tax bar associations.
This is the second extension granted for tax return filing this year. So far, 6.9 million income tax returns have been submitted.
The filing season has also been affected by technical problems with the FBR’s IRIS portal, including slowdowns, glitches and errors that prevented many individuals from submitting their returns properly.
