An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation is scheduled to meet officials of the Privatisation Commission to review Pakistan’s plans for selling state-owned companies, sources told RBN.
The delegation will receive an update on the government’s privatization program, including progress on reforms linked to state-owned enterprises.
The privatization process for three power distribution companies has also moved forward. Expressions of interest (EOIs) have been received for Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), sources said.
Officials will brief the IMF team on the latest developments involving the three companies and the next steps in their privatization.
The talks are part of the IMF’s ongoing review of Pakistan’s economic reform program. Privatization and restructuring of state-owned enterprises remain important parts of the reforms being discussed with the IMF.
