Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi has said he has started traveling by train as rising petrol prices have made road travel increasingly expensive.

Speaking at an event at Governor House, Hashmi said the high cost of fuel was affecting people across the country, including those in government positions.

“I have also started traveling by train because petrol has become very expensive,” he said.

The governor also referred to the government’s austerity measures, saying spending at Governor House had been reduced as part of efforts to control expenses.

Hashmi said vehicles used by the Governor House require fuel and cannot operate without petrol. He added that various expenditures had been curtailed under the ongoing austerity drive.

During the session, the Sindh governor also spoke about the need for long-term planning for Pakistan’s development. He said countries that achieved significant progress had planned their development over several decades.

Referring to China, Hashmi said its development was supported by long-term planning and consistent efforts.

He made the remarks while addressing trainee deputy superintendents of police from Balochistan at Governor House.

Hashmi said the officers would play an important role in maintaining peace and improving governance. He added that policing involves more than law enforcement and also requires addressing social issues and strengthening public trust.

He stressed that lasting peace in Balochistan would require a combination of security, development, public participation, and economic opportunities.
