US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire, with US officials saying he expects American bombing operations against Iran to resume after the November midterm elections.

Iran had proposed a temporary ceasefire as part of a broader plan to restart negotiations over its nuclear program.

The proposal reportedly included reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, provided Washington lifted its naval blockade, eased oil-related sanctions and released frozen Iranian funds.

Trump said he rejected the proposal because Iran wanted the Strait reopened immediately.

According to The Wall Street Journal, US officials said Trump has indicated that American strikes could resume after the midterm elections. They also cautioned that the timing and scale of any future military action remain uncertain and that the president could change his position.

Iran has continued to call for a diplomatic solution and is awaiting Washington’s response to its proposed roadmap.

The developments come as efforts to find a diplomatic path between Washington and Tehran remain unresolved.
