An Irish mountaineer has gone missing while descending Musa Da Mussala peak in Siran Valley, prompting a joint search operation by police, law enforcement agencies and Rescue 1122.

SP Central Shahnawaz Khan identified the missing climber as Alexander, who had traveled to the area with British national Alun David Cooper Cledwyn to climb the more than 13,500-foot-high peak.

The two reached a resort in Mandachucha after visiting Gilgit-Baltistan and spent Friday night there. They started their ascent the following morning and successfully reached the summit.

During their descent in rainy weather, the two chose different routes. Cledwyn reached the Mandachucha resort safely on Sunday, but Alexander did not return.

Khan said the foreign climbers had traveled to Siran Valley without obtaining the required no-objection certificate from police and other relevant authorities.

After receiving the missing person report, Khan reached Siran Valley with five teams and began a coordinated search involving police, other law enforcement agencies and Rescue 1122.

Authorities are continuing efforts to locate the missing mountaineer.
